One change this year: no screening is required.
Over the past several years, incoming kindergarten students underwent assessment
through the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL). Following
extensive discussions among teachers and administrators, we have reached a decision
to discontinue the use of this kindergarten screener. Various factors influenced this
choice, including concerns about the timing and outcomes of the assessment.
Instead, we will rely on the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS). KIDS is
not a new survey, as a matter of fact, we have used KIDS in each of the last ten years.
KIDS is administered by their kindergarten teacher. This survey is conducted during the
initial 40 days of kindergarten and offers a more comprehensive understanding of
students' intellectual and emotional development. The insights derived from the KIDS
survey prove more beneficial to teachers in providing tailored support to students.
